The unsaponifiable component of olive oil (olea europea) contains phytosterols (plant substances with a chemical structure very similar to human hormones), squalene, oleic acid (unsaturated acid), and tocopherol (vitamin E). It is widely used for its lenitive, emollient, and moisturizing properties and is particularly suitable for the treatment of dry and dehydrated skin and alopecia. Recently, careful research has shown that, with topical application, the unsaponifiable components have a beneficial effect on connective skin tissue by encouraging the formation of native soluble collagen, thus improving the tone and elasticity of skin tissue.
